Assistive Technology is defined as any technology a student needs to profit from the special education instruction he or she is being provided through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Through formal and informal evaluation, specific student needs can be identified for which assistive technology may be used.
Assistive technology may be student-specific or available to

a variety of students when part of a special or regular education classroom.
Assistive technology can be used to accommodate students in curricular areas such as reading, math, writing and spelling; with communication, expressively, receptively and socially; with independence and physical access to the classroom and school community.
Every school building in the Waukesha School District has a representative on the district’s “Assistive Technology Committee”. This staff member attends regular meetings which focus on assitive technology topics. Contact your building principal for more information about your school’s assistive technology contact person. You can also contact the Special Education Department at (262) 970-1107 for more information.
