Demographics:
Student Enrollment: 13,923 students from 10,000 families
Diversity: Waukesha is the most diverse school district in Waukesha County.
- 20% minority students,
- 22% of our students qualify for free or reduced meals (Federal Standard)
- 39 languages spoken by students in the school district
- 12% special education students
- Bilingual programming (Spanish language) in three elementary schools; English-as-a-second language programming (all languages) at one elementary school, one middle school and one high school.
Schools: There are 28 schools in the district with 17 elementary schools (grades K-6), 3 middle schools (grades 7-8), 3 high schools (grades 9-12), and 5 charter schools.
- Elementary schools range in size from 190 students to 610 students; middle schools 550-625; high schools 1250-1500.
- All schools, except charter schools, are tied together with the same course offerings and curriculum plan and adopt the same texts and materials. Charter schools are exempt from most state and district regulations and typically have their own unique program and curriculum.
- Charter schools include: iQ Academy Virtual School (827 students), Harvey Philip Alternative Charter School (112 students), Waukesha Health Academy (115 students), Waukesha Engineering Preparatory Academy (40 students), Project Change (10 students)
Graduation Requirements: 25 high school credits to graduate (state requires 21 credits). Waukesha graduates 97% of its high school students.
Staff: 850 teachers, 300 instructional aides, 70 support staff, 100 custodial/maintenance, 60 district and school administrators. Over 60% of the Waukesha teaching staff have a Masters Degree or beyond.
