The Teacher Development Program is one component of the comprehensive staff development program in the School District of Waukesha. This program provides a series of three (3) credit graduate courses that focus on district instructional priorities. The purpose of this program is two-fold. The program:
- Reflects the district's beliefs in the importance of ongoing collaborative, collegial professional learning, and
- Facilitates a common language and common knowledge base about sound practices for teaching and learning.
All teachers new to the district, beginning with those hired for the 2002-2003 school year, are required to take three courses in the areas of standards and assessment, technology, and instructional practices. If a teacher feels that he/she has met or exceeded the course expectations there is a process to request a course alternative. Please contact Dana Monogue, Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction, at 262-970-1015 or dmonogue@waukesha.k12.wi.us
To register for one of these courses please contact Stephanie Peterson at speterso@waukesha.k12.wi.us or 970-1086.

Collegial Study
Groups of Waukesha educators can submit a proposal to create a collegial study that aligns with current district goals and initiatives: Drive to 25, closing the achievement gap of subgroup populations, improving literacy/numeracy achievement, and collaborative teaching and learning practices. Participants must follow specific collegial study guidelines and procedures. This has been found to be a highly effective method for the cultivation of reflective practice and differentiated learning that supports district and building goals and vision.

Sally Ride Academy
The Sally Ride Academy offers quality professional development based on national teacher standards. Teachers are introduced to recent research on how children learn and the application of best practice, and they may have the opportunity to become teacher leaders. All courses feature essential State and National Standards aligned with assessments for instruction. The Sally Ride Academy can help teachers realize their learning targets and goals of the No Child Left Behind Act. This effort is in partnership with the Wisconsin Academy Staff Development Initiative, Second Chance Partners for Education, Inc., Cardinal Stritch University, the Waukesha School District, the Grafton School District, and the West Allis/West Milwaukee School District.
