ACADEMIC HONESTY POLICY

All school work submitted for the purpose of meeting course requirements must represent the efforts of the individual student.  Any form of academic dishonesty is prohibited.  Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to:  plagiarism, forgery, copying or stealing another person’s work, creating more than one copy of one’s work for distribution, doing another person’s class work, allowing another’s material for the purpose of using it as one’s own, unauthorized copying of software, unauthorized use of hard copy or software to develop one’s own software.

Academic Honesty Policy #6175

Adopted School District of Waukesha:  January 8, 1997

Principal’s  Introduction

This guide is provided to you as a resource to help you to understand how to cite your sources when doing research in all subject areas.  The documentation methods in this section are based on the Modern Language Association (MLA) standards.

It is very important that all students know how to use this information and then use this style of documentation for class papers and any other form of writing that requires reference and/or support material.

The purpose of this guide is to provide you with the same format of documentation across all classes and grade levels in middle school.  It will be the same type of documentation that you will be expected to use in high school as well.  Finally, using the information in this guide when you write papers will help to avoid some of the problems listed in the district’s academic honesty policy.

It is hoped that this information will help you understand the importance of correctly documenting all your sources when you write.
