Quarter One

Biography/Autobiography Honors English 8     See calendar for due date

 

Answer all the following questions completely citing references from the book when appropriate.  Please number each response.    Please word process your response if possible.

 

  1. List title and author of the book

 

  1. Explain why you chose to read about this person.

 

  1. What was the most important event that occurred in the life of the main character of this book?

 

4&5. Other than the main character, list two characters in the book and explain why they were important to the main character.  What was their relation to the main character?   

 

6.  Describe the accomplishments or notoriety attained by the main character of this book. 

  1. Why is this person important enough to have a book written about him/her?

 

  1. What was the most interesting fact you learned about this person?

 

  1. What was the most memorable/striking/shocking fact you learned about this person?

 

  1.  Explain why this person would be a positive or negative role model.

 

  1.  On a 8*10 sheet of paper create a symbol for this person.  Think beyond the obvious!      Write a paragraph explaining your creation and why it is appropriate to your person.

 

  1. Write a one paragraph critical review of this book.  Be sure to include the factual accuracy, author’s style, and content/interest.  Give this book a rating or recommendation.

 

  1. Create a bibliography of other books written by or about your person.  It must contain at least five (5) titles and follow the MLA style.   See your documentation book for more inclusive directions.  References are listed in alphabetical order by author’s last name.

Quarter Two Book Report

 1. Full title, author’s name, copyright date, and number of pages: For a novel or

    play, underline the title; for a short story, use quotation marks.

 2. Give a brief summary of the plot: Must be no more than seven sentences long.

 3.  Explain the significance of the title: Authors do not choose a title randomly.

     Usually there is an important reason and the title is symbolic.

 4. Describe your first impressions of the main character: Give examples to

    explain your ideas. 

5. Identify what caused a change in the main character and explain how the   

    character changed: These changes may have been a consequence of choice,

    a conflict of some kind that has to be resolved, a display of some outstanding

    trait like courage, or even a result of events that occur during the novel.

 6. Cite a memorable passage from the book: Copy word for word a short

    passage that you thought was worth remembering. Explain why you chose this

    passage from the book.  

7. Read all the following questions and then write one response about the

    significance of reading this literary work: What discovery did you make as a

    result of reading this book? What change occurred in your life after reading

    this book? Did you receive any enlightenment? Did the book affirm your views

    on life in some way? In other words, what did you get out of reading this book?
