The E.B. Shurts building, located in the Fox River Sanctuary, is home to the environmental education program of the School District of Waukesha. The building is operated through a cooperative agreement between the School District of Waukesha and the City of Waukesha, Park and Recreation Department. It consists of five rooms; a large community room and service room, scheduled by the city and three rooms managed by the environmental education department of the School District of Waukesha. There are two display rooms 1) a live animal room whose focus is on learning about some of the creatures living in our local habitat, their behavior and other characteristics, 2) large habitat display area with diorama (including limestone cave) of the major habitats found in Waukesha County. The third room contains office and storage space as well as a resource library for district students and staff. This facility contains over 3000 books, videos, magazines, charts, posters and vertical file.
