CAPstone Program

 

CAPstone (Collaborative Alternative Program) began in 1992 after receiving a  3-year DPI grant to encourage interagency linkages and social programs to meet the educational needs of at-risk youth. It resulted in a unique approach to the education of struggling Waukesha students using both academic and social-emotional strategies. 

 

CAPstone serves students in grades 9 & 10 who are referred due to various difficulties at their home school. 

 

Program Highlights

 

* Transportation provided according to district policy

*  Classes run Monday through Friday 9-2 following the Waukesha School District calendar

*  Credit based curriculum delivered in various styles incorporates experiential, hands on projects

*  Life skills/Social competencies incorporated into curriculum

*  Small class sizes (average 12-14)

*  Assignments designed to be completed in class

*  Thursday enrichment period provides additional educational support

*  Strong communication with parents, home school and outside agency support services. 

*   Participate in two additional AM classes at their home school to augment credits. 

*   Participate in  home high school extra-curricular activities including sports, music and dances.
