NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Our winter parent/teacher conferences are quickly approaching. Teachers will be communicating with you regarding their plan for these conferences and sign-up procedures. All conferences will be student-led, so please plan to bring your child with you. Our students are looking forward to sharing their learning and growth with you! If you have any questions about conferences, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
The third grade music concert has been rescheduled for Monday, February 18 at 6:30. We hope to see all of our third graders and their families at this event. The students have worked hard preparing for this concert, and their dress rehearsal yesterday was outstanding!
Don't forget we have our talent show this evening at 6:30. I hope you can join us!

DID YOU KNOW . . .
Next Friday morning, February 15th, the entire school will be participating in an outdoor collaborative activity for our Tribes program. Please make sure your children come to school with appropriate outwear for an outside activity (snowpants, boots, hats and gloves). Thank you for your support!
Jump Rope for Heart:
Jump Rope for Heart is next Tuesday, February 12th for students in grades 3-5. Please see the attachment entitled "Last Minute Reminders".
This is an annual event that reinforces the educational messages of staying tobacco free, eating right and exercising as part of a healthy lifestyle while also raising money for the American Heart Association. Students in Grades K-2 will participate in a number of activities involving jumping fun over the next few weeks in their physical education class. Please see the link on our website home page for the flyers and necessary forms and review the parent letter attached to this e-post.
If you are considering attending a school within the Waukesha School District that is not your neighborhood school, you must complete an In-District Transfer Request form. The application period for school choice is January 1st - March 1st for the 2013-14 school year.
You may enter your in district transfer request electronically on the district website at www.waukesha.k12.wi.us. There is a link to both an electronic option and a printable form. If you choose the printable form option, please submit the completed form to our office prior to March 1st.
Families with students enrolling in KINDERGARTEN or in the School District of Waukesha for the first time should complete and submit enrollment paperwork to the
attendance area school, by March 1st.
Enrollment Program Information:
In addition to the above, the Waukesha School District offers other innovative programs for students. A copy of this program information is attached and gives a description of various programs as well as enrollment dates and deadlines.
Kindergarten Registration for 2013-2014:
If you have a child who will be eligible for kindergarten next year or know of someone who does (5th birthday on or before September 1st), please contact our office for registration paperwork or print it off the district website (www.waukesha.k12.wi.us) and return it to us the week of January 21-25, 2013. Please note that if your child is currently in our District K4 program, you do not need to do new registration paperwork, but we would like to hear from you as to your plans for next year. Please give Mrs. Anderson a call at 970-2205 to let her know if your 4K student will be attending Prairie or another program so that we may keep our lists updated.
Six Flags Reading Program:
Your child should have brought home a reading log and parent letter explaining the Six Flags reading program our school is participating in. This is your child's chance to earn a FREE Six Flags Great America ticket for reading a total of 6 hours. Simply record any reading your child does at home, make sure it adds up to 6 hours and return the signed reading log to your child's classroom teacher on or before February 21!

Middle School Music Parent Meeting:
The Central Middle School music staff has rescheduled last night's 5th grade parent meeting to Tuesday, February 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the Central cafeteria. Any questions may be directed to Sarah Wehmeier at 970-3247.
Sodexho Parent Advisory Committee:
During the last several years Sodexo has hosted a Parent Advisory Committee with interested parents to learn about the food service program, make suggestions and let them know their concerns. They are looking to hold the first meeting mid February. They are held at West High School, starting time is 5:00 pm and last for about 1 hour. Please contact Ruth Bentley, ext. 4035, Roy Blankenheim, ext. 3396, or Laura Weisbrod, ext. 4332, if you have any questions or to sign up.
I do have one request that will help make sure that our end-of-day routines run smoothly. Please communicate with your student before school where they should be going after school each day. With one phone line and only one staff member covering the health room and office after 2:30 p.m., we cannot guarantee that a message with a change of after school plans will get to your student. Thank you for your help with this.
Drop-off & Pick-up Reminders:
In the morning, playground supervision begins at 8:20 a.m. Please do not drop your children off at school before that time. In the event of inclement weather, they will be let into the building at 8:20 a.m. Children should be dropped off on Center Road or School Drive. The front driveway is for school busses and day care vans only. Your child should enter the building at their grade level designated entrance. The front doors should only be used if they are tardy.
If you pick up your child after school, please arrange a meeting spot at the north or south end of the building. Do not arrange to meet your child at the main entrance. It has been difficult for staff to maintain bus lines when exiting the building due to crowds of adults and students.
Outstanding School Fees:
You will be receiving a statement of your student's fee account if you have an outstanding balance on school fees. If you are unable to pay the entire balance, we are happy to work out a payment plan for you. Please contact the office for assistance; checks should be made out to the School District of Waukesha. District policy states that fees outstanding as of December 15th are considered past due and subject to go to collections.
2013 Waukesha Education Foundation Celebration of Excellence: The Waukesha Education Foundation will host a fundraising event on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at South High School. Please see the attached flyer or their website, www.waukeshaeducationfoundation.org, for more specific details.
E.B. Shurts Environmental Center "Full Snow Moon" Event: On Monday, February 25, 2013, the E.B. Shurts Environmental Education Center will host a "Full Snow Moon" event. There will be indoor and outdoor activities. Please see the attached flyer for a specific schedule of activities.

Did you know...?
PTA organizes and hosts two Scholastic book fairs a year. When you and your kids buy books at the book fair/s, Prairie earns “Scholastic dollars” that teachers can use to supplement their own classroom libraries. Our very own school library gets Scholastic dollars as well, which Mr. Klager recently used to fill in some “holes” in the school collection. That’s your PTA at work!

Typically, PTA hosts a Movie Night in March—what’s a good blockbuster the kids will want to watch?
