NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Thank you to those of you who were able to join us for our parent/teacher conferences. Once again, we had a strong turnout. I look forward to reporting our school-wide attendance rate in next week's E-Post.
Thank you to our fifth graders and Mrs. Kieselhorst for a fun concert last night!
We look forward to three exciting events next week. On Wednesday, we have Jump Rope for Heart. I know we have many students looking forward to this. On Friday, we will have a Paw Pin assembly and our Talent Show. A fun week ahead at Prairie!
Thank you for sharing your child(ren) with us! We appreciate your continued support!

DID YOU KNOW . . .
Jump Rope for Heart 2012
Reminders for any 3rd-5th grade student participating in the after school event on Wednesday, February 8th.
- You must have a permission slip in to Mr. Booth by Tuesday, February 7th in order to participate!
- Remember…you do not have to collect $$ in order to participate, but you do need the permission slip!!
- The event will begin right after school and is held in the gym.
- The event will be completed by 5:15—please make sure you have a safe way home after the event.
- Wear comfortable clothing and wear your gym shoes.
- You may bring a water bottle, snacks will be provided.
- Jump ropes are provided.
- Bring in your collection envelope if you have collected all your money. If you do not have your money, it is due to Mr. Booth by Wednesday, February22nd.
- Print off a donation report and put it in your collection envelope if you raised $ on-line.
- .Please do not turn in cash. If at all possible, convert all cash into a check or money order made out to the American Heart Association.
- Any parents / guardians who would like to help, please see Mr. Booth on the day of the event—everyone is welcome to come and watch the kids!
Reminders for all students:
All Prairie students who are raising funds for the American Heart Association have until February 22nd to hand in their money.
All thank you gifts (prizes) should arrive within 4-6 weeks after the 22nd.
Yearbook order forms were sent home with students last week; cost is $9.50. Orders are due by February 17th and checks should be payable to Lifetouch. Yearbooks are distributed at the end of the school year. This is the only time to purchase yearbooks as there are no longer additional copies available at the time of printing.
Optimist Swimming & Diving Team Meeting - A parent/student meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 16th @ 6:30 p.m. in the Prairie Library. Information about the program, practice times and location as well as a handout will be given. Any student interested in joining but unable to attend this meeting, please contact Kim Hubbard @ firstname.lastname@example.org or 262-574-7617 to receive the information.
J.K. Lee’s Black Belt Academy was at Prairie this week during Physical Education Class. Teachers from the Waukesha J.K. Lee’s Academy lead a fun, high energy martial arts class designed to help kids with life skills. Topics covered include how to be respectful, being focused in school, and how to have an “I can do it” attitude.
In addition to the classroom instruction, any Prairie student who is interested in further instruction can sign up for a two week course offered by J.K. Lee’s Black Belt Academy held at Prairie School with all the proceeds to benefit the Prairie PTA. A flyer was sent home with each student and is in our attachments section today as well.
When: Monday and Wednesday (February 13, 15, 20, 22)
Where: Prairie Gym
Price: $20 for the 1st child, $15 each additional child.

2ND ANNUAL STRIVE TO THRIVE - The School District Of Waukesha and the Waukesha Education Foundation are collaborating again this year in order to offer a Saturday morning full of fun and exciting activities focused on healthy living for our students, their families, our staff, and community members. The activities include a chip-timed 5K run, a 3K walk, a one-mile run for children under age 12, a discounted bike helmet drive, a kite flying activity and a free health fair! The health fair will feature over 20 venders and displays including exercise programs and healthy cooking presentations! Pep bands, other musicians, and school spirit groups will be part of the morning’s excitement. All of these exciting events are happening at Waukesha North High School on the morning of Saturday, April 21, 2012!
Many community donors have sponsored door prizes or have underwritten the costs of the events. Proceeds from the running and walking events directly support the Waukesha Education Foundation, an independent, community-based, charitable volunteer organization that raises funds for the educational enrichment of students in the Waukesha Public Schools.
The health fair and kite flying activities are free. Entry fees for the 5K run are $20 for those who preregister before March 21 and $25 for those who register after March 21 or the morning of the event (8-10:00 AM registration and run/walk events begin at 10:00). Fees for the 3K walk and one-mile kid run are $10 for those who register prior to March 21 and are $15 for after March 21. Registration for the 5K run, 3K walk, and/or one mile kid run, can be accomplished electronically through a link posted on the School District of Waukesha website or through the Badgerland Striders website. Registration forms for the 1 mile kid run and the 5K and 3K events are available in all School District of Waukesha school offices.
Similarly, orders for bike helmets are available in all School District of Waukesha school offices. All bike helmets need to be fitted and picked up during the morning of April 21.
Ample parking on the day of the event will be available in the North High School parking lot located at 2222 Michigan Avenue.
E-Achieve Academy . . . Most of you know the district has a virtual school - iQ Academy Wisconsin. What many of you might not know is that iQ will be changing its name to eAchieve Academy next year. Why the change? The district has always maintained control of the instruction side of the school. After partnering with a vendor to provide logistics for the last 8 years, it's time to bring the whole operation in house. Doing so gives us much more flexibility in improving the quality of our school. Currently, iQ leads the way in Wisconsin with the best ACT and 10th grade WKCE scores along with the best graduation rate of any virtual school in the state. We are excited to bring that same level of excellence to the logistical side of the school. Wisconsin’s inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend school districts other than the one in which they live. The open enrollment application period for the 2012-13 school year is from February 6- April 30, 2012. The application period closes at 4:00 p.m. on April 30, 2012. Late applications will not be accepted for any reason.
Parents may apply in one of two ways:
· On-line (recommended) at http://dpi.wi.gov/sms/psctoc.html
· Although on-line application is recommended, paper applications may be obtained from the Department of Public Instruction or any school district after January 2, 2012, and must be delivered to the nonresident school district. School District of Waukesha applications should be submitted attention: Stephanie Peterson/Open Enrollment, 222 Maple Avenue,
Who needs to complete this process:
- Students currently attending a Waukesha school via Tuition Waiver for the 2011-2012 school year.
- Students who have changed residency to a non-Waukesha address between September 1st and February 6th.
- Students planning to move into an address that is outside of the Waukesha School District between April 30 and September 1, 2012; and wish to stay in the Waukesha School District.
- Students currently attending K4 or eighth grader under Open Enrollment (a special paper application will be mailed home in January).
Note: families that move unexpectedly after April 30th are able to complete a Tuition Waiver form for the following year.
In-District Transfer Requests/School Choice
If you are considering attending a school within the district that is not your neighborhood school, you must complete an In-District Transfer Request form which can be accessed online at: http://tinyurl.com/6s67zy6. This form can be printed and completed manually or filled in electronically. After completion, please deliver the form to your home/attendance area school by March 1, 2012. NOTE: Families with students enrolling in KINDERGARTEN should complete and submit enrollment paperwork to home/attendance area school.

The Way to a Teacher’s Heart… There is no better way to keep our dedicated teachers going strong on a long night of conferences than with some homemade treats. Thank you to the many Prairie families who provided food for Conference Dinners. Special thanks to coordinator Kim Hubbard for putting it all together.
It's time to order Scrip cards! If you have never ordered Scrip, this is the month to start. Simply complete the attached form and return it to school by 3:30 on Wednesday, Feb. 8 OR shop online at www.shopwithscrip.com and use our enrollment code: EB64484L25513. Submit your order and send your check to school in an envelope labeled PTA Scrip. The best part of the Scrip program? Our Scrip-to-Go table was kept busy during conferences. We sold off nearly all of what we had on hand. This trial gave us a good idea of what to stock for future “on-hand” sales. Thank you to all who stopped by to purchase gift cards as well as to Rebecca Reagles, Amy Krall, and other PTA members who staffed the table.
Where is the Book Fair?? I’m sure many of you heard that question from your kids during conferences. With our second round of conferences coming so early in the year, we are unable to take advantage of Scholastic’s Buy One Get One sale if we have it during January conferences. Although PTA greatly appreciates all of the Scholastic dollars we typically earn at the fall book fair, we want parents to be able to take advantage of this great sale to put more books in kids’ hands. We tentatively plan to hold the spring Buy One Get One Book Fair in conjunction with our May family night.
Hidden Talents…Please join PTA in supporting our students at Prairie’s Annual Talent Show on Friday, Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. If you have questions about this event, please contact coordinator Sonija Parker at email@example.com.

Reminder: PTA Meeting Date Change: In deference to Valentines everywhere, please remember that our PTA meeting this month will be on Wednesday, Feb. 15. There are lots of events in the works at Prairie. Please attend to find out how you can play a part.
